Meet the Artist
Rosa Colon
Rosa Colon is a fine artist; her initiation began as an interior designer and architecture student in Bogota, Colombia. She’s been a Stamford resident for over 11 years, and her medium of choice has always been hyper-realistic oil painting. However, most recently, for the past five years or so, Ms. Colon has been working with natural, organic materials that include flower petals and leaves through a technique known as "Pressed Flower". “My designs are usually simple, and through them, I try to conserve nature’s grandeur”
Her work has been exhibited at numerous individual and group exhibitions throughout Fairfield County; most recently, she has begun to participate in group exhibits in the New York area, such as a group exhibition in Brooklyn / College Student Center, in Brooklyn, NY. Ms. Colon is also well known among the vast artistic community in the greater Stamford area. In addition to being our member, Rosa Colon is also a board member of the Stamford Art Association, a well respected organization that for thirty years has had a strong presence within the Stamford community. Ms. Colon is also a board member of the Literacy Volunteers Stamford/Greenwich, Inc. Additionally, she's an art instructor at Hall Neighborhood House Inc. in Bridgeport, CT, where she has 35 students ranging from ages 6 to 12 .
Ms. Colon also sees the great need for Hispanic children in our area to be motivated in the arts, she has volunteered in the past by giving art lessons to children, which happened to be a great experience that she’s now willing to pursue further in her creative endeavors. Ms. Colon is also very interested to participate in our arts and culture committee, like the rest of us in the Hispanic Chamber, Ms. Colon believes that nourishing artistic expression helps to enhance and preserve the dignity of people, and thus, helps society to dignify its culture. She envisions the great potential that Hispanic business owners have to help hispanic local artists in our area to be more noticeable; as artists in return, would help these small business owners promote their services to a greater extent! Ms. Colon has joined the Greater Stamford Hispanic Chamber of Commerce because she understands it’s networking benefits, she was one of our participants in our first networking event, which took place on January 25th, 2011 at the Stamford Campus of The University of Connecticut. Needless to say, Ms. Colon sees the Greater Stamford Hispanic Chamber as a great outlet to reach out to the community.
