Raices Theatrical Group, January 2011
On December 21, 2010, Eva Padilla, our executive secretary and director of our Arts and Culture committee, was announced as one of the recipients of the Mayor's Arts Grants Awards . As a result, Ms. Padilla received a grant of $3,000.00; which she has accepted on behalf of Raices Theatrical Group; a Latino, Stamford-based theatrical group of which Ms. Padilla is the executive director; she has made public that this grant will be employed towards the production of “Bolero for the Disenchanted” a play written by Jose Rivera and that is based on Caribbean culture.

or the pat several years Ms. Padilla has mounted multiple performing shows in the city of Stamford that focuses on the dignity of Hispanic culture; she receives this grant from the administration of Stamford Mayor, Mr. Michael Pavia, through the Mayor's Committee Arts Partnership Program; an initiative that for the past eleven years has worked to foster innovation in the many artistic venues that exists in the city of Stamford.
This program is also designed to encourage increased audience participation and enjoyment of the arts to all Stamford residents.What follows, is a statement by Eva Padilla introducing the Raices Theatrical group: “Our mission is to give generations of young Hispanics the opportunity to appreciate the excitement and magic of live theater, to learn about the riches of their cultural heritage, to consider the arts as a profession and to see their own experiences depicted on stage by nurturing a strong company of actors, directors, designers, technicians and administrators
. Creating a socially responsible artistic environment where the arts are both integral and relevant to the life experiences of its multicultural audiences. Helping to develop confidence, personal discipline, and the ability to work effectively with others.
